Join us for a double-feature presentation from two of the industries most respected and successful designers gone entrepreneur.
Dan Mall and Steve Smith come to DC to discuss the role and responsibility that design plays in web, product and business.
As the web continues to rapidly evolve everyday, there is an ever-growing demand to standout while attempting to keep up with the pace of innovation. Interfaces and interactions are now one-in-the same while experiences and expectations strive to defy the status quo and redefine intuitive. Hear how design plays a fundamental role in building better experiences, developing stronger relationships and defining a brand.
6:30pm – Pregame
We'll begin promptly at seven-o'clok, but will have plenty of pizza on hand prior to the event, the keg will be tapped and soda/water will be plentiful. Come early, hang-out, relax and get ready for some design inspiration!
7:00pm – The influence of design and success
Dan Mall, founder & design director at SuperFriendly, comes down to us from Philadelphia to kick-off our double-feature. Dan is an award-winning designer; working with such brands as Crayola, Google, GE and even Starwars.com! Previously Dan led the design efforts at exciting agencies such as Big Spaceship, Happy Cog and Pixelworthy.
Come listen as Dan talks design & inspiration as he takes us through his process and experience as a strategist, product founder, entrepreneur and designer throughout his career.
8:00pm – Design that sells itself
Steve Smith, founder at Ordered List, comes over to us from South Bend, Indiana, to talk through the responsibility of design. Steve is an extraordinary designer and developer who has inspired an industry with his design-centric approach to all of his successful ventures. Steve has a reputation for designing and developing beautiful experiences. Most recently, Steve’s company, Ordered List, was acquired by GitHub; including products such as Speaker Deck, Harmony CMS and Gaug.es.
Come hear Steve discuss the role of design in product development, user experiences and even from the perspective of a developer and the development life-cycle. From running an agency and working with clients to transitioning to a product company and working with customers; Steve will discuss the role and responsibility of design.
9:00pm – Eat/Drink/Talk With the Speakers
Join us after the presentation as we keep the conversation going casually over food/drinks.
